Late Onset Foraminal Stenosis due to Malpositioned Screw 10 Years Ago

Abstract
Pedicle screw instrumentation is widely used for posterior fixation in the treatment of spinal instability due to degenerative disease, trauma, and tumor. However, despite improvements in surgical methods and the advent of image-guided techniques, pedicle screw malposition may still occur, resulting in impingement on adjacent neural or extravertebral structures and fusion failure. Although neurological deficits related to screw misplacement are less common, symptoms usually manifest immediately. Here, we report the case of a patient with late foraminal stenosis due to the malposition of a pedicle screw that had been placed more than 10 years ago. The malpositioned screw was responsible for radiculopathy that resolved after screw removal.
